POCKET FULL OF SUNSHINE

Pin It Now!

my heart melts when I hear her voice...
Seriously, it is the sweetest thing I have ever known.
Her eyes are the widest and full of "what if's" and that
is alright by me. I let her have her way with her mind
before the news, the influx of reality tv and life
corrupt it. when she speaks, I savor it like one who's fasted
savors the first bite of steak on a Friday after Lent.
the sentences are broken and whole all at once, yet the melody
is oh so perfect.
she sings to me while holding the side of my face.
you know the way child actors do in movies or Target commercials.
Only hers are real and are followed my neck tickles.
It is the sincerest form of love capped with infatuation that
i have ever grown to know.
And for this short moment I can call her mine.
My very own ray of sunshine...my treasure.
And I can wipe her face in public and she knows it's out of love.
she will curl up on my lap, even though she is over half my size and
still coax me into rocking her to sleep to the tune of Moon River.
She is all mine for this moment and in my pocket is where I shall keep
her.

STRIPES & FLORALS

Pin It Now!

1/2

it could all be so simple...
florals & stripes are
leaning a little heavy on my heart
lately.
My current mission is to find a striped dress
in the perfect weight, length, stripe ratio
that falls perfectly. that doesn't make my curves
look like spaghetti junction...

Any suggestions?

WE WRITE

Pin It Now!

We write for the same reason that we walk, talk, climb mountains or swim the oceans — because we can. We have some impulse within us that makes us want to explain ourselves to other human beings. That’s why we paint, that’s why we dare to love someone- because we have the impulse to explain who we are. Not just how tall we are, or thin… but who we are internally… perhaps even spiritually. There’s something, which impels us to show our inner-souls. The more courageous we are, the more we succeed in explaining what we know.

This one goes out to you all in the cubes...
I know it's Friday and you are rejoicing because in a few hours

on Facebook, and eating leftovers that you really
didn't want to take for lunch today.
Here is a morsel of joy and laughter to carry you over that next hump of today...
until 4:30/5/6 (dare I say 7) when you can cheers it all

DISCOVER ME / 4

Pin It Now!

I thought I'd keep it light on this round of Discover Me
and just dish out some unblog tid bits.
If you haven't heard of "unblogging", it's basically
not possessing typical blogger-like characteristics
 for starters:

1. I don't really like macarons. There. I said it.
I like the chocolate ones, but honestly the others are just pretty to look at.
gimme a hot chocolate chip cookie or a brownie and i'm won over.

2. I don't have a single Beyonce song on my itunes... yeah...not a fan.
I will leave it at that before I get burned at the stake by her following.
But I love Solange!! Hey SoSo Hey!!!!

3. My house is a friggin mess...when I shoot anything, I have to stop and
clear a space so laundry, cups, or mail piles are in the background.

4. I buy Chloe's clothes from Target most of the time.
She's an active kid and I would hate for her to ruin
anything super nice. I will wait until she learns to sit still
to pay a bunch for her wardrobe.

5. I don't shop as often as most fashion bloggers do.
and when I do I am always too busy to stop to set up a tripod to
take an outfit shot. So to you fashionistas that do it daily,
I am literally standing and applauding you right now.

 6. Speaking of fashion... Lately I have been wearing my chambray shirts
leggings and flats... and that's it. Working from home has changed my
routine juuuuuust a bit. And honestly, unless my bestest forces me
on a "No Chambray Day" then I'm going to be in chambray.
sorry. it's cozy.

7. I have a pc....
next

8. I totally decorated my daughter's room to be semi-photographic
and she insists on littering it with pillow pets and legos.
so basically her room looks nothing like Pinterest...like I intended.

9. I actually love quinoa, but I don't get kale chips at all.
And i happen to love maruchan... I know it's terrible,
but it's quick and easy and I health-ify it with tons of veggies and salmon.
Sue me.

10. i don't like coffee... I've tried very hard to drink it. Even the heavily
sweetened ones from Starbucks, but it doesn't stick.
If we go on a cafe date, don't think I'm blah.
I'm a tea gal through and through.

Whew!!!! That feels so much better.
Let's all unblog together shall we...
If you've got an unblog confession tweet it &  #unblog.
If you got a question, go ahead ask me!

GIRL CRUSHIN: TRACEE ELLIS ROSS

Pin It Now!

There is still a chill in the air....
I'm feeling a little trapped and lusting for freedom of a different sort.
I've been in rare form (more on that later) and just overwhelmed with life.
When I stumble upon this photo of Tracee Ellis Ross,
It seemed to evoke all that I was craving.
This happiness... light weight feeling... the lips...the hair(going on a year in transition)

Such a beauty...
I hope you are well and finding your bliss.
Cheers & Bisous!

DISCOVER ART / JON HAN

Pin It Now!

Kinetic... Colorful...Noisy...Clear
This is the work of Jon Han.
This piece reminds me of the keep calm but be a duck but move like a duck
philosophy most abide by. The girl above is so calm and dare I say rhythmic, but beneath her
the world is clamoring with due dates, arguments with her beau,
a pimple in the middle of her face the day before a big interview,
car troubles... everything.
All will be swell though... and will fall into a perfect pile
customized to make her life hers.

FALLING BACK

Pin It Now!

I'm slapping the back of my hand pretty hard.
I've been a terrible blogger lately.
But to completely honest,
Not only am I going through a couple of life changes,
I have been trying to reevaluate this space/mylife/creative purpose as a whole.
Yeah, having "time" will do that.
personally, I don't want this to be a complaining about life platform
and I'm sure you guys don't feel like hearing about the downside
of life, so I just use the golden rule: If you don't have anything nice to say...
But to share some lovely news that I received today:
I will be a vendor at this year's Summer ICE in Atlanta!
I have a couple of other projects that I'm venturing into...
needless to say May is going to be a helluva month.
I will surely loop you all in on the yesness floating in.
Keep up with my daily shenanigans over here
Thanks for taking this interesting ride with me boo's!

DISCOVER ART / JUDITH ANN BRAUN

Pin It Now!

This  proof of magic could have been very useful as a kid
after I finger painted on walls.

Judith Ann Braun has mastered a delicacy
in our favorite style of painting as a child.
Symmetrical swipes replace the gloppy masses of
muddled colors that reflect the sporadic nature and
freedom of the craft. But instead we are able to see
a calculation and evenness of pressure that assuredly
leads to steady rate and stroke.

All I know is that from here on out
I will be hoarding all of Chloe's fingerprint trees and families that she
creates in class.... You never know what it can amount to.

Here she is in action! Pretty captivating, right?
I urge you to dive a little deeper into Judith's work
over here

Enjoy!--Kel

HAPPY SUNDAY

Pin It Now!

Stuff your eyes with wonder,’ he said, ‘live as if you’d drop dead in ten seconds.
See the world. It’s more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories.’
 Ray Bradbury

How awesome is this building!!!
I hope you all are having a splendid Sunday.
As for me,
I have spent the majority of it resting and hangin' with the mini
and watching way too many kiddie shows.
I have the songs in my head when I turn down for bed.
But, i guess that is just another perk of mommyhood.

In other news, there will be some changes coming to
(r-ki-tekt)
great changes. risky changes.
but if i don't leap, than I will be 60 years old
wondering what would have happened if...
Once things are solidified I will share more.
But in the mean time, be on the look out for newbies that will be
popping up.
I hope your evening treats you swell.
go grab yourself a big spoon and a pint of something
sinfully good and indulge before your week begins.
(it always catches me off guard that i am not complaining
about Monday anymore... I can dig it.)

DISCOVER CRAFT / 1

Pin It Now!

So I will be honest,
I have a few tricks up my sleeve.
I use to say that I don't have a lot of time
to share them or indulge in DIY,
but now, time is one thing I have an abundance of.
But you guys may not. I thought I would share
with a couple of quick spruce ups that will make
your space yours, but seriously,
take no time and very little resources.

Let's start with a cute vessel zjush.
Say you are planning a small gals dinner at your place or just
want something pretty hanging around in your eye line.
Add some quick color with this little trick...

What you will need:
Jars (pick a size that will fit your bouquet comfortably)
Washi Tape

Remove a generous length of tape.
Begin wrapping horizontally, applying an even
amount of pressure to make sure there are no
ripples along the way.

Et Voila! A quick refresher for those flowers
that you just scooped up from the market.
Stay tuned for more quick DIY's
ahead! And as always, if there is something
specific you want to see made, shoot me a note!

Bisous! --Kel
